Sampan or boathouse of the ChineseA sampan is a relatively flat bottomed Chinese wooden boat from twelve to fifteen feet long. A sampan includes a small shelter on board, and is used as a permanent habitation on inland waters. Sometimes soil is being put on the roof for planting purposes. Due to scarcity of land and the rapid grow of China’s population many have opted to live on these boathouses or sampans.
