Reed Houses and Boats (Titicaca, Peru)

The Uru people living around Lake Titicaca (the highest navigable lake in the world) build their boats and houses out of reeds. Clusters of houses stand on floating rafts, which are also made of reeds.

Unique Hotel Cala di Volpe (Smeralda)

Hotel Cala di Volpe in Italy is another option that some report as the world’s most expensive hotel with price estimates from around $27-$36 thousand. For this you get only three bedrooms (with three bathrooms) but on the plus side you also get an outdoors pool (salt water) and your own solarium and gazebo. Amusingly it is reported that this contender for the world’s most expensive hotel still charges visitors for its internet access however!

Shoe House

Surely inspired by the nursery rhyme (about the old lady who lived in a shoe) it seems like someone decided to turn it into a reality. That someone was the artist-come-hotelier Ron Van Zyl who built a shoe shaped house for his wife in South Africa.
